An enchanted evening at a majestic French Chateau
September 30, 2018
A Spectacular Soirée
The capstone event of The Inn’s 40th year will feature a once in a lifetime experience at Vaux-le-Vicomte. This grand château, located just outside of Paris, is considered one of the greatest homes ever built. In 1661, the 17th century château hosted what is thought to be the greatest party ever thrown. Louis XIV’s finance minister created a celebration so extravagant that the jealous king had him jailed. Patrick O’Connell returns to “the scene of the crime” to recreate—or even surpass—the incredible soirée.
Chef O’Connell and 150 guests will relive this extraordinary experience; touring the magnificent gardens over cocktails and dining by candlelight in the grand ballroom with a feast inspired by the actual menu served to Louis XIV.
Just as the first famous fête concluded with fireworks on the grand lawn, the anniversary event will surpass this with an unforgettable display.
The journey to Vaux-le-Vicomte symbolizes The Inn’s deep liaison with France. Patrick O’Connell’s gastronomic pilgrimage took him to the French countryside to learn the customs, the flavors, and to master the techniques of haute cuisine. Now, he brings that sensibility, along with four decades of experimentation and refinement back to the country that launched his culinary revolution.
