An extraordinary night at an American landmark
co-hosted with the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association
June 16, 2018
Bringing History to Life
On June 16, 2018, Patrick O’Connell will transform the historic grounds of Washington’s iconic Virginia home for a magical journey through time. More than 250 years ago, George Washington surveyed the town of Washington, Virginia, home of the now legendary Inn. He named the streets – Main, Middle and Gay - and danced in what is now the Inn’s Ballroom, perhaps the minuet. More than two and a half centuries later, the man who transformed Little Washington will channel the spirit of George Washington to create an unforgettable experience.
The evening will begin with an elegant garden party followed by dinner on the green expanse of lawn facing the Potomac.
The meal will recreate the experience of dining at Mount Vernon in the 18th century, which will include organic vegetables grown on the estate, delicious sour cherries from the Inn’s orchards, and regional Virginia cuisine. This exquisite food will be perfectly paired with wines and distilled spirits to celebrate the past and present bounty of Virginia. Similar to The Inn’s star-studded 30th anniversary, culinary pioneers from across the country will be present and honored. The night will conclude with an extraordinary firework display over the Potomac River. Co-hosted with the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, the event’s proceeds will benefit the preservation of Mount Vernon.
